Our club, Gleneliz, derives its name from “Glen” (as in Glenys Anderson, who started the club 50 years ago) and “eliz” (from Elizabeth, the district where classes have been held since the club started). Currently our classes are held at the Elizabeth North Primary School.
Over the past 50 years our club has been represented by many of hundreds of students in National and State Teams, Police Tattoo Concerts, displays in shopping centres, nursing homes, school fetes etc. Additionally Gleneliz participate annually in the Playford and Salisbury Christmas Pageants. Our students compete in the two State Competitions held each year at the Royalty Theatre in May and August and they perform 2 concerts to family and friends, Mid Year and at the end of the year.
For many years, our club has run “The Gleneliz Best Type Solo, Duo and Graceful Competitions”, a three day event held in early November where competitors come from all over the state. This event has always been very successful and is one of the largest local solo competitions in South Australia.
In 2011, Gleneliz celebrated its 50th year which is a big milestone.
